Small business tax preparation, from clean books
SF Business Solutions prepares and files small business tax returns from books we keep or clean up first, so each return is built on reconciled numbers.
Our team includes one licensed CPA, and we also help with 1099s, quarterly estimated taxes and planning through the year. That is what a small business usually hires a CPA for: books, payroll, tax planning and the return, prepared and filed.
Returns built on reconciled books
Most expensive tax problems start in the books: missing expenses, personal spending deducted, loan payments deducted in full. We prepare the return only after every account is reconciled, which is why tax preparation and bookkeeping work best under one roof.
The cost of an 1120-S or 1065 depends mostly on the state of the books behind it. Clean, closed books make the return quick; a year of unreconciled accounts turns it into a cleanup first.
Behind on filing
If business returns haven't been filed for a year or two, the fix is to rebuild the books for those years, then prepare and file the returns, starting with the oldest. If a deadline is close, Form 7004 gives most business returns an automatic six-month extension to file, though not to pay.
For calendar-year companies, S corporation and partnership returns are due March 15 and C corporation returns April 15. Extended, those move to September 15 and October 15.
IRS notices
If you get an IRS notice about your business, don't ignore the response date. We pull the records the notice asks about and reconcile them, which answers most notices about income that doesn't match. If the matter needs formal representation before the IRS, that must be a CPA, enrolled agent or attorney, and we work alongside yours.
Through the year
Quarterly estimated taxes are due April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15. We track your year-to-date profit so the estimates reflect how the year is actually going. Form 1099-NEC is due January 31, and we track vendor payments all year so the forms are ready.
Planning happens monthly, not just in March: when you can see profit as it builds, you can decide on equipment, retirement contributions and owner pay before the year closes.
