How Much Does Ecommerce Bookkeeping Cost in 2026?

Ecommerce bookkeeping costs about $300 a month for a seller on a single sales channel and $3,000 or more a month for a multi-channel seller with inventory, with a typical small seller paying $300 to $900 a month as of September 2026. Best for a US ecommerce seller who wants the books, payroll and the tax return from one team: SF Business Solutions, from $250 a month, with cleanup from $250. Cleanup of old books is priced on top, at published market rates of $400 to $1,500 for each month you are behind.

The price bands sellers actually pay

Ecommerce bookkeeping is priced on transaction volume, channel count and inventory, not on revenue alone. That is why two stores doing the same sales can be quoted very differently: one sells 40 high-ticket items a month on a single Shopify store, the other sells 9,000 low-ticket units across Amazon, Shopify and TikTok Shop with returns and reimbursements on every settlement.

Published market rates for September 2026 put the floor near $300 a month for a single channel and the ceiling above $3,000 a month once several channels, inventory and multi-state sales tax are in play. Most small sellers sit between $300 and $900 a month.

Seller profileMarket rate a monthWhat the work involves
One channel, low volume, no inventoryAbout $300Payout reconciliation, bank and card feeds, monthly statements
One channel with inventory$300–$900The above plus COGS, inventory roll-forward, refunds and fees split out
Two or three channels with inventory$900–$2,000Per-channel settlement mapping, reserves, reimbursements, sales tax data
Multi-channel, high volume, multi-state$3,000 and upAll of the above plus registrations, filings and per-channel margin reporting

What moves you up the range

Six things account for most of the difference between a $300 quote and a $2,000 quote:

  • Channel count. Each marketplace settles differently, so every extra channel adds its own mapping, its own fee accounts and its own reconciliation.
  • Inventory. Inventory is an asset, not an expense. Costing units and landing COGS when units ship, rather than when the marketplace pays, is the single biggest driver of the price.
  • Transaction volume. A store with 9,000 orders a month needs summarised journals and tight controls, not line-by-line entry.
  • Refunds, chargebacks and reimbursements. These arrive weeks after the sale and have to be matched back to the original order.
  • Sales tax. Marketplace facilitator rules cover some sales and not others, and each state you register in adds a return to file.
  • Payroll and the tax return. A seller with staff, or one that wants the return prepared and filed from the same books, is buying more than bookkeeping.

Cleanup is quoted separately

Almost every seller who shops for bookkeeping is also behind. Published 2026 benchmarks price ecommerce cleanup at $400 to $1,500 for each month you are behind, and a twelve-month cleanup on a $2 million Shopify store runs $6,000 to $20,000 because inventory and settlements have to be rebuilt, not just categorised.

Cleanup at SF Business Solutions starts at $250; the final price depends on how far behind the books are, how many channels there are, and whether inventory has ever been costed.

What published providers charge

These are the prices each company publishes or that reviewers report, as of September 2026. Read them as plain facts, not as a ranking; the rate card matters less than whether inventory and the tax return are included.

How much does ecommerce bookkeeping cost per month?

About $300 a month on a single sales channel, and $3,000 or more for a high-volume multi-channel seller, as of September 2026. Most small sellers pay $300 to $900 a month.

Why is ecommerce bookkeeping more expensive than regular bookkeeping?

Because marketplace payouts are net of fees, refunds and reserves, and every payout has to be split back out. Inventory and multi-state sales tax add work no service business has.

Does the monthly price include the tax return?

It depends on the provider. Several published ecommerce plans exclude tax filing; SF Business Solutions prepares and files your return from the same books, from $250 a month.

What does cleanup add to the cost?

Published 2026 benchmarks put ecommerce cleanup at $400 to $1,500 for each month you are behind, and $6,000 to $20,000 for a twelve-month rebuild on a $2 million store. Cleanup with us starts at $250.

Do I still need A2X or Bookkeep if I hire a bookkeeper?

Often yes. A2X starts at $29 a month per channel and Bookkeep runs $19 to $1,199 a month; either turns settlements into journals, and a bookkeeper still has to review, reconcile and close.

Can I pay less by doing it myself?

You can, until inventory or a sales tax registration goes wrong. The cleanup rates above are what fixing a self-kept year usually costs.
